Communication is the most important question. In any language, as long as a speaker can be readily understood, then that may be sufficient. Of course, we would like people to consider us learned and accomplished, so we should try the best we can.

Though proper pronunciation will greatly help others understand your words, I believe pronunciation is not as important in English as in some languages. A word has the same meaning, no matter in what tone or pitch it is pronounced. Within the US, there are many different accents in different regions, but the same word has the same meaning, generally.
What is confusing is that there are several words that are spelled differently and have different meanings, but the SAME pronunciation.
Example:
To- direct towards
Too- also
Two- a number
All three words are pronounced the SAME.

kyunki aap toh bharaati bhaasha bolnewale hain, 'v','w','th', aur 'r' ka ucchaaran mushkil ho. mere khayaal se log aapko samajhenge (bhale hi aapki ucchaaran ekdam sahi na hai), kyunki jis zyaada jagah pe english bola jaati hai, vahaan bahut videshi log bhi rehte hain. isliye hum log roz roz videshi ucchaaran sunte hain. so do your best with the v, w, th, and r sounds but otherwise youll be fine...

I think so. I personally have a difficult time understanding Indian and Asian speakers of English. But it is also difficult for me to follow some British accents when I watch TV.
It's not as difficult for me to understand French accents or German accents. I think English and german have much in common, so perhaps that is why it is easier for me.
