Where does the phrase 'take shelter ' come from?

The phrase is not idiomatic, but an ordinary use of language. In case of a storm, we would wish to take shelter from the rain. An iconic song, "Gimme Shelter", was made famous by the Rolling Stones beginning in 1965, but that's another story.
