I just wanna add this point to what my friend Youseef said:
Children (plural noun) = أطفال [ Atfal / At-Fal]
Childhood (noun) = الطفولة [ a-tufoolatu / at-tu-foo-la-too ]

a childhood = طُفُولَةٌ = طفولة = [tufoolatun]=[tufoolah.] ( t like in the word : iTiliano)
the childhood= الطُّفُولَةُ = الطفولة =[a-tufoolatu]=[a-tufoolah.] ( the same sound of t in "italiano" and "oo" like in [good]).
[a] children = أَطْفَالٌ=أطفال= [atafaalun]
the children = الأَطْفَالُ= الأطفال = [a-atafaalu]
double "a" has a sound as "ah" it's little long, and the sound of "a" is like father in the american accent.
good luck
