How to translate "language" in Spanish
My pocket Spanish dictionary says "language" translates as "idioma" masculine, or "lengua" feminine. So, since I am female, would I always use "lengua"?

Both words are correct and gender do not refer to the speaker, but to the Spanish word as in Spanish words are assigned a gender (masculin or femenin).
"Lengua" or "lenguaje" are used in mostly in academic texts than "idioma" which is a most broadly used.
