What is "until" and "by"?
1. "until" as in I will wait for you until you finish.
2. "by" as in we should hand in by 3 pm tomorrow
Those two are slightly different in English. How do you say in Arabic?

The first sentence:
I will wait for you until you finish.
سأنتظرك حتى تنتهي.
So, 'until' in Arabic can stand as 'حتى' followed by a limited time, specifically, with waiting.
The second:
We should hand in by 3 pm tomorrow.
يجب أن نسلم العمل غدًا بحلول / في تمام / بموعد أقصاه الساعة الثالثة.
So, 'by' in Arabic can stand as 'بحلول' , 'في تمام' or ' بموعد أقصاه' all followed by a deadline ,specifically, with work deadlines.

Until, means "up until the time when something else occurs" Wait for me until 3 p.m. Now it is 2:45 pm, so we must wait 15 minutes for her to show up (arrive). She won't be home until Tuesday=She won't get home before Tuesday......
By is a preposition in English. It means next to, close to. It is used in various situations. I want you home by 11. {Don't come home after 11} Another example: The book was written by Stephen King. That picture was painted by Joan Miro. The record store is by the fountain. He saw a wild turkey walking by the side of the road.

Mrs. xarmanla, 'حتى' has various meanings and usages, all depends on the context. For example: It always feels cold in this room, even in summer. نشعر دائمًا بالبرودة في هذه الغرفة، حتى في فصل الصيف. even = حتى. .. Nobody came to help me. لم يأت أحد حتى يساعدني. to = حتى [informal] 'لكي or لـ ' is more formal. Just sit here till I come back. انتظر هنا حتى أعود. till = حتى. Could you look after the children while I cook lunch? هل يمكنك الاعتناء بالأطفال حتى أعد الغداء. while = حتى but 'بينما' is more formal.
