Can I say "I'm searching about something"?
OR is it "I'm searching FOR X."?

"I'm searching for something" is the phrase you need. "About" won't work in place of "for".
However, you can say "I'm searching about for something", where "about" means in several locations. You'll still need "for something" in the sentence.
