Here's my new answer following the context given by blackjacky0929 in my other answer.
"School hop" is usually not used as a verb, but it is in this case: When she school-hopped as a foster kid, she’d been a nobody...
So she "hopped" from school to school, which means that she changed schools frequently because she didn't have a stable family.

It's a term that isn't used much anymore to mean a casual school dance.
