"Busted" is a term used in informal English, and there are several ways to use it. Here are some examples: 1. broken, not correctly functioning, doesn't work. Example(s): My camera has been busted since I dropped it in water. He busted his leg skiing. 2. caught doing something "you shouldn't have been doing", either by the police, your parents, a significant other, etc. Examples: I got busted by my mom last night. She found out I was at a party instead of studying.

"Busted" is an adjective. Generally, it means the same as "broken". You can say, "This vase is busted", "I got in a car accident and now my car is busted up", and "I fell and busted my lip".

It is also slang meaning "you have been discovered doing something wrong." So, if your parents realize that you have lied to them, you are "busted." Also, if the police arrest you for something we say you are 'busted," which in this case is just another way of saying "arrested."

But I was busy studying for a big test. Alicia: No, you weren't! I saw you kissing Maria in the park! Joe, Ralph, Nancy, Susan (all smiling and laughing): BUSTED!
