It is a colloquialism, and while it is correct, it's more appropriate to say "I came home at....", or "I arrived home at..."

Not sure if what tense you want.
Past: When I returned home from the office my wife was waiting for me. (don't forget the article "the" before office)
Future: When I return home from the office my wife will be waiting for me.
Past: When I got home from the office my wife was waiting for me.
Future: When I get home from the office my wife will be waiting for me.

"I got home an hour ago" is correct English. You could also say "I arrived home earlier this evening" or simply "I came home."
