help me understand the future in the past tense...please

Here's one example, using reported speech:
"I will cook dinner after work," he said.
He said that he would cook dinner after work.
So in this example you are talking about the past, where a prediction (using will) was made. "Will" shifts to "would".
"Would" is far more flexible than that, so even though "future is the past" is arguably a correct phrase, it's also very misleading,

As far as i understand your question ~
we use "WILL" for future tense ~
but we use "WOULD" to tell future in the past ~
