I am learning Japanese, but I believe the typing method would be very similar. On an American computer, when you have your keyboard settings in Chinese, you would type out the word, like you would type it with English letters, and while the word is highlighted, you hit the space bar, and a list of symbols will come up. Sometimes it is hard to find the right one, even in Japanese.
