helloo .. heres my question : if I say to you " guau guau " what do you think it is ?
or if I say "pio pio" or "miau"
--- well .. do you think that onomatopoeia here does in fact indicate a non arbitrary relationship between form and meaning? ......what does exactly arbitrary mean ?... in simple words .. can you give me some examples about it ? ...
thanks !!!

Arbitrary basically means that something is random, left up to chance, rather than selected based on a defined system. I do think that onomatopoeia is an indicator that certain words that represent sounds were NOT created arbitrarily, i.e. were not created by chance.
An example of an arbitrary selection would be me picking out foods to eat on a whim, instead of selecting them based on their healthiness or taste.
