does it mean I am going to make a great effort to get an A in this test? or I am going to make a great effort to get through it smoothly?

To "ace a test" means that you got 100% correct, no problem. The test didn't have a chance against you.

Ace this test means to get a high score like A or A+ The A card in a deck of cards is also called an ace.
