거니와 is a old Korean expression, I think it had been used in the time of early the Joseon Dynasy as same age of the Ming Dynasty.

거니와 is used when you approve a certain contents and connect the following contents which is related with the former contents.

날씨도 차거니와 바람까지 거세지고 있다.
(it's cold and even the wind is getting up)

I remember that I had learned it from high school.
