唐=tang dynasty. jie=street. why does tangrenjie mean chinatown?

I think the most splendid time for ancient China is th Tang dynasty. So Chinese peopel are called Tang ren which means people come from the Tang . So that stree ( jie ) is a place where gathering a lot of Tang ren.
