Can I use the following two sentences?
1) 前天,我去上班了。
2) 前天,我去打工了。

零工 :
零散且非長期的工作。通常指臨時性質的工作。
如:「學生經常利用寒暑假到工廠打零工。」
打零工 簡略成為 打工
如:「暑假期間,速食店裡的服務生,大都是打工的學生。」
打工 其實也是 上班
只不過 上班 通常指 長期穩定的工作
上班 :
在規定的時間,到固定場所工作。
如:「他每天搭公車上班。」

上班,是比较正式的,说出去让人觉得有面子;
打工,有点自嘲型的,只要自己不是老板,都是在打工,在这个比较现实的社会,年轻人压力大,上班只不过是分长期和短期的打工。

Yes they could both mean "I went to work yesterday". The might be a slightly difference, "上班" sounds more official than "打工" to me, actually "打工" is often used to refer to doing a non-professional job.
