What are the differences between writing letters and sending emails?

Writing a letter refers to either hand-writing or printing out a letter onto paper and then delivering it by mail or in person. Sending or writing an email refers to typing up a message that will be sent electronically over an email service such as Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail.
