What is the difference between idioms and collocations?

An idiom is a phrase that isn't supposed to be taken in the literal sense of what you're actually saying.
Collocations are placements of words that sound nice or are better together than other synonyms you could have used.
"I'm all thumbs." - Idiom
"Ladies and gentleman." - Collocation
