Ornament is usually more narrowly defined as a particular decoration, like on a Christmas tree (this is culture specific, but it's the only one I can think of!): bulbs and such. "Decorate" is a verb, and "decoration" is a noun that can apply largely to anything designed for aesthetic purposes.
