Un styliste vs. un couturier...FRANÇAIS!
What is the difference between "un styliste" and "un couturier"? My dictionary says un styliste is a designer and un couturier is a fashion designer. How are these words used in French?
Thanks!

"un couturier" may design clothes but he will actually makes them with a sewing machine and stuff. "un styliste" might just buy stuff for you and tell you how to wear it. He might draw new concepts. So it's more a person of idea versus a craft man in my opinion.

The fashion designer gives the orientation of the collection, designs the product in great detail, chooses the materials, colors, shapes, etc ... He must be able to constantly renew his creativity. It is a profession that combines art, fashion and technology. The stylist may work seams, but will generally hire a tailor.
The tailor (or clothes maker) meets a customer who knows what he wants, and who comes to see him because he did not find clothing suitable commercially. It is up to the tailor to create clothing that matches the customer's request. The tailor can also draw on the work of a designer to create clothing, and tailors can work for fashion designer.
