Movies in Spanish Hello all.... This is for those who recall the early days of learning SPANISH. Time is so precious thus I do not want to waste it. Did you find watching movies in Spanish with English subtitles useful or should one opt for only Spanish. My eyes are sore from crying as many of the movies thus far have proven to be quite sad and involving much tragedy ie., people trying to escape to America, gangs etc. I am a realist but would like some suggestions on interesting movies in Spanish worth my time. Many Thanks!Thank you all much....may I ask is it usual for a Spanish film to offer spanish subtitles?

I've found that it's better to watch with subtitles in your target language. It was too easy for me to, even subconsciously, focus on the written English words rather than sounds I was hearing. I was also more able to connect written language with spoken language when I could read non English subtitles and listen. Buena suerte :)

Hola, You're right, life's too short to waste it crying (lol) I'd suggest "Un franco, 14 pesetas". That's a funny way of showing that time in Spain when people had to emmigrate, around 1960, not even knowing a word of the language spoken in the host-country, and being the cultural aspects, so important, too. Mainly, the lack of "freedom of expression" in Spain at that time. It's a touchy film, that let you know something else about the recent history of Spain, and get to know, how we've changed in that little period of time. Hope you enjoy it :) And as per subtitles, I suggest, if reading them, do it in Spanish. No matter if you don't get all the words, it's just the general meaning, what you've got to grasp. Saludos,
