How can I say "today was a good day" in french?
In particular, I have to use the verb "a été" or "était"?
Thank you! :)

Both are technically grammatically good. That said "était" seems to be favored over "a été", like it's smoother to say or something.
"aujourd'hui a été une bonne journée"
"aujourd'hui était une bonne journée"
or even "aujourd'hui, c'était une bonne journée".

"Aujourd'hui a été une bonne journée" or "aujourd'hui c'était une bonne journée" are correct but we don't really use it cause it sounds much better to say "aujourd'hui, j'ai passé une bonne journée". I hope you understand my bad english :p
