"what not"
A pen pal send me that: "I guess it's a bit different for different people but most of them tend to ignore their family lives and what not." what does "what not" mean here? thanks!

'And what not' is an informal - and slightly dismissive - expression meaning 'and things like that'.

It roughly means "and things like that". By putting "and whatnot" at the end of a list, you're basically saying "and anything else in the same category, that you could think of".
