Hva betyr 'ifra'?

"Ifra" is almost interchangeable with "fra", which means "from". "fra" is more commonly used though, and I think it sounds more natural in most cases. But I can think of one expression when "ifra" is more commonly used, and that is "å si ifra" which means "to notify" or "to tell (about something)".
