When should I use people or persons?

people is the plural of person. person's shows ownership of an object to one person. example "I believe that car is that person's over there."

Usually 'persons' is only used in legal or bureaucratic writing. People is the normal plural of person and should be used in almost all situations.

You typically use "people" as the plural of "person".
"Persons" is not really in common use, but we understand it to mean "individuals".
