preventative measures -the type of measures is preventative, so it goes before the noun -prevention is the measure, so it would stand alone

I agree with the other comments, that "preventative measures" is correct, though "preventive measures" would be more commonly used in American English. "As with other infectious diseases, one of the most important preventive measures is frequent hand-washing."
