Hola,
Significa irse en barco. "Sail", el nombre, es una vela, pero el verbo se usa para cualquier forma de navegar, no sólo de veleros.
También, "sail" puede significar volar, normalmente por los corrientes de aire.
The wind blew her sun hat off and it sailed away.
El viento le quito su pamela y se fue volando.

Really depends on the context. It usually is used figuratively so it doesn't mean to "sail on a ship."
