When do you use BTDT (Been There Done That)? I'm trying to learn some text messaging abbreviations & shortcuts to comment on my friend's photos in Instagram. Could you explain me when you use BTDT? My friend has posted a short video from a concert recently held in the capital of my country. How can I use BTDT in a comment on her post?

I've never needed to use BTDT. It's a pretty dismissive comment - are you sure you want to post that on your friend's photo? I think it will make you look arrogant.

I agree with Andi and Peachey. 'Been there done that' would strikes me as a rude and upsetting comment to make on a friend's post, equivalent to saying 'how boring and unoriginal'.

You can just about get away with it if she's a really close friend, and it's clear from context that it's "jokey". As for syntax, I think it would just be "BTDT" on its own. I could maybe (but wouldn't) use it to my sister or my boyfriend. It's not nice.

I usually see BTDT used to express dismissal of another person's experience. So, if you think that the concert she went to wasn't worth going to and your own life is more exciting, then you could reply with BTDT.
