"Vacation" and "holiday" are fairly interchangeable. "Vacation" is more an American term while "Holiday" is more British English. However, "vacation" has connotations of meaning "to go on a vacation" as in travel. However, both would be technically correct. Bank holiday means a public holiday in which the banks will be closed, mostly in British and Commonwealth countries.
