Samantha,
Here is a dictionary definition:
FATE implies an inevitable and usually an adverse outcome <the fate of the submarine is unknown>. Something bad will happen for sure!
DESTINY implies something foreordained and often suggests a great or noble course or end <the country's destiny to be a model of liberty to the world>.

Also, each word is often used in special expressions. They are popular in fantasy movies because fantasy movies talk about destiny and fate a lot.
You are destined for greatness! (You will become someone very important in the future)
Now, you will meet your fate! Now, you will meet your doom! - Now, you will die. (The villian, the bad guy says this.)
Your fate is sealed. There is nothing you can do to change the outcome of your life.
In addition to the definitions, when I hear the word destiny, I have a positive reaction. :-)
When I hear the word fate, I have a negative reaction. :-(

Hi, some people believe that destiny may be seen either as a fixed sequence of events that is inevitable and unchangeable, or that individuals choose their own destiny by choosing different paths throughout their life.Destiny is fate, fate is destiny.

Fate and destiny is something which happens beyond your own control or doing. The difference is; for fate, the event has happened but for destiny the event will happen in the future.
Examples:
It is fate that John married Mary although they live world apart.
With the way things are happening it is their destiny that they are going to get married.

fate and destiny have a lot of difference.you can know that what is your destiny but u cant know that what is your fate..for example if i will say you became my destiny so it means i will try my best to have you because i know that you are my destiny.if my destiny is to get success in my life so for that i will work hard to get my destiny..and fate you dont know what will happen to you tomorrow, thats your fate you.may be tomorrow you will find your destiny.something good or bad can happen to you...thats your fate...
