Someone working in a beauty salon is a beautician: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/beautician
There are professionals who specialize, so you may have hairdressers, manicurists, nail technicians, cosmetologists and more.
Also, people who work with makeup for TV/movies are known as makeup artists.
While researching this I learned a few new words, so thanks for the interesting question! :)
