What's the meaning of "a thin smile"?

Someone having a "thin smile" just means that they aren't smiling truly. It usually means they are forcing a smile for some reason like being mad, jealous, or scared. Example: As my friend and I approached the haunted house, I gave her a thin smile and asked, "Do you want to go first? Or should I?"
