about Netherlands
Which one is right? "the Netherlands" or " Netherlands"?
also, how to pronounce it? I heard someone said "də neðələndz" instead of "ðə neðələndz"
Thanks!

Hi Carol,
As it ends in "s" there is an idea that the country is composed of more than one land. So it needs the article as any plural noun does. "The Netherlands" is correct.
Compare
The Netherlands and
Scotland (without the article)
The reason why some people say is as " Nederlands" is because this is the way Dutch people say it and it is also the Dutch word for the language spoken there.
