Community TutorGerman: What is the meaning of "sich wünschen"?
Does "sich wünschen" mean to wish or hope for something? Also, I found this sentence online. Is my translation correct?
Ich wünsche mir zum Geburstag ein paar neue Socken.
= I'm hoping for a new pair of socks for my birthday.

That translation of "wünschen" is completely correct although you should say "ein Paar Socken" if you want only one pair...otherwise you'll get more than only a pair. ;)
