How do I understand REST in this sentence?
When the funicular came to rest those new to it stirred in supension between the bluses of two heavens.

In this context, "came to rest" means that the funicular stopped moving.

In fact it's not correctly written. It should be 'blues'. Even then, though, it is still a rather cryptic sentence.
