Hiragana vs Katakana
I'm currently learning Japanese language. I've started by learning the Hiragana. I have memorized the characters already including the combination. I'm currently on the process of memorizing the Katakana.

I've gained a few Japanese vocabulary thru watching anime. The characters of January in Hiragana and Katakana greatly differs. I can already read Hiragana characters.
This is the character for January in Hiragana:

いちがつ --- I-CHI-KA-TSU

This is my reading of January in Hiragana characters. But in Katakana, it is written as:

一月 ----- TSUKI

My problem lies on what to use? Will I use the Hiragana character reading for my sentences or use the Katakana?

Generally, we don't use katakana for January, it's 一月(いちがつ / ichigatsu).
ONE MONTH is written as the same in kanji 一月 but it's read as ひとつき / hitotsuki, they don't mean the same.

Katakana is used for the words from other languages, names for person, the place and the country from overseas except some.

Hiragana looks (as you well know) like this: あえいおう
Katakana looks like this: アエイオウ
一月 (ichigatsu) is neither Hiragana nor is it Katakana (Hiragana and Katakana are called the Kanas). It is Kanji. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanji

一月 by the way means first moon :)
