Instead of going up the stairs one by one, he would leap and go over three.

He starts at the bottom of the stairs and either has very long legs or jumps to the third step, missing the ones in between. He does this all the way up the stairs. It implies he wants to get upstairs very quickly.

Hello. I think it means that when he make one step he make it huge, and can step for the long distance at once.
