Hopefully this is somewhat useful...
"I neither swam nor ran today." Neither... Nor...
"Neither of us know Chinese" Neither by itself.
Nor is never by itself as far as I know.

You should also realise that colloquially, people might say "neither...or..." instead of "neither...nor...". It's not correct, but you should recognise it when you hear it.

More commomly also after a first negative sentence to add a second negative
"I don't like getting up at 5 in the morning, nor do i like eating breakfast this early"
Can also say "i dont like eating breakfast this early either" but is less elegant/more clumsy
