what's the meaning of "catch 22"?

Catch 22 = If you do one thing, it will be bad, if you do the other thing it will be bad. For example if I want to have more money to spend I must work more, but then I have no time to spend my money and if I do not work more I will have more free time but less money to spend. That is an example of a "catch 22 situation".

It's a wonderful book by Joseph Heller. And the meaning is vicious circle as i understand it.
