A desk is where you put books and papers and things when you work or study. Traditional school desks can open and you can put your books inside. Modern office desks have fittings for computer terminals and other office equipment. Desks are usually just for one person.
A table is used for other purposes. You sit around a table to eat, for example, at home or in a restaurant. At a meeting, people sit around a table to discuss things.
