Conceive is more often used to form a negative, so for example : I can't conceive of any reason why he would do that!
In a positive you could say : Well, it is conceivable I support, but unlikely.
Imagine is used more often in the conditional, for example :
I would imagine that he will prefer apples. (using imagine as I think)
