"می" + verb as one or two words? Hello! I've been learning Farsi for about a month now and I've got some questions about the "می" in front of verbs. Maybe someone can help me :) 1. Do you write it as one or two words? ("من قارسی یاد میگیرم" or "من قارسی یاد می گیرم") I used to see it as one way on some verbs and the other way on other verbs but now my book wrote it one way on a verb and the next page it was the other way so now it's officially awkward :) 2. Is it in front of all conjugated verbs? I saw it in front of all verbs except "to be" but that's irregular anyway. And it would be way easier to not have to remember whether or not it appears. Thanks for answers!

1) Connected is old usage. Separated is considered the only correct form according to the Academy of Persian Language and Literature: http://www.persianacademy.ir/fa/pishvand.aspx But, note that it is not written with a full space as می شود, because it is still one word! You should use a half-space (ZWNJ) instead: می‌شود 2) It is used to construct the imperfect and progressive tenses in past and present of virtually all verbs including "to be" and "to have" in special cases. For more details, see: http://www.jahanshiri.ir/fa/en/indicative-past-imperfect http://www.jahanshiri.ir/fa/en/indicative-present-imperfect

Both are correct, but it is better to write separately. Especially when you write it separately, it can be read easier. می is not usually used with "to be" and "to have". But sometimes you can use it in your sentence, but very rarely.

1. My grammar books say both ways are correct, for what it's worth. 2. No. It's only used in some tenses (the present and the past continous/imperfect or whatever you call it). It's not used in the subjunctive and imperative. And it's not used with the verb "to have". (I'm only talking about modern Persian.)

1- the correct way is to write مى separated. Some books and some people write it connected which is incorrect. 2- yes

To answer your first question, the correct and standard one is to use می separately as Farid said. But I agree with Sophie for the second question. Note that it is فارسی (Farsi) not قارسی. Good luck:)
