Resemblance = Visual characteristics. That man resembles a duck. (that man looks like a duck) Resemblance = looks like.
Similarities can be used to describe anything in both of the compared things.
That girl has so many similarities to my last girlfriend. She has a good personality. Their hair is similar. But she resembles my cousin!

Resemblence is usually used to describe two people. For example. You resemble your sister. Similar is used to compare everything else. Really they both mean the same thing. Resemblance is just a fancy way to say it
