This means local businesses will benefit greatly from people coming into their cities and spending money there. It also is an important chance for businesses to create relations with foreigner markets. Politically, hosting events like this paint your country as an open and welcoming country to others. Of course, the country must be true to these meanings as during the focus of world media on a central location can have some negative results. This was true in China where world media critisized certain things, which I think is something most had never experienced before in China's centralized media system. Thirdly, it helps support national pride and can break political tension. People tend to be happy when the focus of issues is on something positive like a sporting event rather than negative issues. It's like a parade. People can go cheer and support their favorites while laughing and having a good time.
