/babbo/ is used in Tuscany (mostly) with the meaning of /father/ and also of /dad/.
Anybody in Italy understands the meaning of 'babbo'.
(Tuscany is a beautiful region 160 km north of Rome, and in its center there is Florence (Firenze)).
People from Tuscany are well known to speak very good Italian.
Also Mr. Dante Alighieri was from Tuscany.
