In Swedish we have two kinds of nouns. Utrum (en-ord) and neutrum (ett-ord). Den/det means "it" in English. We use det when the word is neutrum, and den when is utrum. For example: Utrum: en bil - en vit bil. Den här bilen. (This car). Neutrum: ett hus - ett vitt hus. Det här huset (This house).
