Why w/ is with, w/o is without?
Get confused by these abbreviations sometimes...

It's just a convention of writing and typing shorthand. Some people, when they write, abbreviate "with" as a small w with a bar above it. It looks a little (but not exactly) like this: ŵ
These little abbreviations do come up often, so it's worth knowing them.
