What do spanish use for the verb ¨to lock¨? Eg. Did you lock the door? or It was locked.

We use the verb "cerrar", using your examples: "¿Cerraste la puerta?. Estaba cerrada

Cerrar = Involves to close, there are literal meaning and figurative menaing for example:
Literal meaning. Cierra la puerta. Cierra la puerta con llave. ¿Cerraste la llave del agua?. Cierra el libro. Cierra la laptop.
Figurative meaning. Cierra las inscripciones. Las inscripciones estan cerradas. Ella esta cerrada a nuevas relaciones. La discusión esta cerrada.

To lock = Cerrar con llave. Cerrar means to close, but not using a key. ¿Cerraste la puerta con llave? Estaba cerrada con llave.

Asegurar la puerta con llave. "Cerrar" does not imply that you use a key.
