I would recommend you Russian movies that were made during Soviet Union times. Nowadays, Russian movies plainly suck, with very few exceptions. Movies: Office Romance - Служебный роман (my favourite. Don't be alarmed by the title, it's not some cheesy drama, but a brilliant comedy) Irony of fate - Ирония судьбы или с легким паром (again, brilliant comedy about Russian New Year) The three musketeers - Три мушкетера (based on Duma's novel) A dog on hay - Собака на сене (comedic music film, based on the novel by Lope de Vega) - after this film was made the phrase "собака на сене" became a phraseologism in Russian which means a person who has something valuable, but let it go to waste, never using it, but still won't let go of it and let other people benefit from it. Like a dog protecting a bone. As for modern films, I would recommend you Russian series: "Interns" - Интерны (comedy about the life of medical interns) "The fall of the empire" - Гибель империи (historical drama about Russia in times of World War I)

I would propose "Убить дракона", it's a very deep film.
