In business, a "guarantee" means a promise to do something if a product or service has a problem. The commonest kind of guarantee is one that says if the product is defective, the business will repair or replace the product at no cost to you. "Why are you returning this TV?" "Because when I plugged it in and turned it on, nothing happened. It's dead." "Oh, I'm sorry. That's clearly a defective product. Put the box on the counter and we'll bring you another. "Why are you returning this TV?" "When I got it home and turned it on, the picture just wasn't as good as I expected." "I'm sorry, that's not a defective product, because you say it works perfectly. We will not replace it." "Why are you returning this $400 TV?" "When I got it home and turned it on, the picture just wasn't as good as I expected." "The manufacturer's guarantee only covers defects, but our store policy is 'satisfaction guaranteed' so we will give you a store credit for the price of the TV. So go pick out one with a better picture. We will sell it to you and you only need to pay the difference in price between the new one and the one you just returned."
